                   SDYJO is high-level Afro-Cuban Latin Jazz program, consists of top level high school jazz musicians from in and around San Diego County.

                  Auditions & Registration

                  Students will perform a selected piece of music for audition on their instrument via ZOOM. By appointment only.  

                  Registration: after auditions are completed.

                  2024 AUDITIONS BEGIN August

                  Foundation

                  The SDYJO foundation believes that jazz & Latin Jazz are an excellent tool through which creativity and communication can be explored, expressed and that it should be accessible to as many school-aged students as possible. 

                  References

                  It is extremely important that musicians who join SDYJO be enrolled in a school music program or active in private lessons. A letter of reference must be submitted. The more active students are musically, the opportunity of growth is even greater.

                  Ensembles

                  SDYJO consists of high school students from around the San Diego County area with a passion for jazz, especially Afro Cuban & Latin Jazz.

                  Experienced middle school students are also encouraged to participate if they meet the required skills.

                  Mariachi Ensemble consists of middle school to high school for the Mariachi group. 


                  Tuition Assistance

                  Currently, no foundation is available as of yet but students may receive a discount based on eligibility.

We believe that studying music helps builds self-esteem, character, elevates our hearts and minds while establishing in our students a love and passion for jazz music education for students in middle school and high school.

                    SDYJO is a program designed for middle school and high school students in the San Diego County. The primary focus is on developing the student’s technique, improvisational skills and deepening their understanding of jazz  music education and its history.  SDYJO will perform advanced jazz repertoire combining swing,  blues, Brazilian, Af

                    SDYJO is a program designed for middle school and high school students in the San Diego County. The primary focus is on developing the student’s technique, improvisational skills and deepening their understanding of jazz  music education and its history.  SDYJO will perform advanced jazz repertoire combining swing,  blues, Brazilian, Afro Cuban, Afro Puerto Rican, and R&B music.

                  SDYJO members will have an opportunity to hear from some of the finest in the industry of music as well as perform with a jazz artist, participation in recording a CD project, perform at various jazz venues.

                  This group will represent San Diego on a national level.

                    Robert Resto has had extensive experience as a jazz musician, clinician, director of several church ministries & groups, conferences, working with renown artist, recording and arranging for several organizations. Owns a music school in North County San Diego. He works for the Poway Unified School District as assistant director of instru

                    Robert Resto has had extensive experience as a jazz musician, clinician, director of several church ministries & groups, conferences, working with renown artist, recording and arranging for several organizations. Owns a music school in North County San Diego. He works for the Poway Unified School District as assistant director of instrumental music and directs several jazz ensembles. His passion for jazz is what led him to begin this organization to offer young musicians the experience needed to pursue music as a career and give knowledgeable information on the industry of music.
